Together yet Apart: River Rio Negro and Amazon River in Manaus

The meeting point of River Rio Negro and Amazon River in Northern Brazil, at a distance of 10 kilometers from the city of Manaus is a major attraction. The reason is that, though the two rivers meet at this point, they don’t really mix with each other immediately. Instead they hold their own and the two distinct colors of these rivers are clearly visible with a stretching boundary between them, which continues for quite some distance. Rio Negro is the Black river and its color comes from decaying vegetation with flows into the river. Amazon is brown in color with rich content of sand and mud.
